Prior to joining Bynoe Martinez & Co. Westmin who was admitted to the Bar of Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago in October 2006, practiced as an Attorney-at-Law in private practice at Chancery Chambers in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
He has appeared and litigated cases before the Industrial Court, Magistrates’ Courts, Environmental Commission, High Courts and Court of Appeal in Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados’s Highest Court, the Caribbean Court of Justice.
Westmin has experience in Civil, Commercial, Environmental, Industrial, Family, Constitutional and Criminal litigation matters both as an Instructing Attorney and Advocate Attorney. In his Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, he has previously represented major Trade Unions, commercial banks, and public authorities such as the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) where he acted as Instructing Attorney in a high profile Judicial Review challenge to the grant by the EMA of a Certificate of Environmental Clearance for the construction of the Aluminum Smelter Plant in Trinidad. He also represented the Claimant in a successful ground breaking constitutional litigation in Belize.
Westmin is also a Lecturer of Law at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus since 2011.
